About Me

I’ve worked in publishing since 2001, mostly as a copy editor but occasionally as a writer, layout artist, and book designer. I have managed projects from receipt of manuscript to publication, and I have hired, trained, and managed a team of editors and layout artists. I have also taught a senior-level course on book publishing for the editing and publishing major at Brigham Young University. You can view my profile on LinkedIn.

I graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor’s degree in English language and an emphasis in editing, and I returned there for a master’s degree in linguistics. My thesis explored the effects of copy editing on the grammar and usage of standard written English. I am very interested in matters of style and usage, prescriptivism, and language standardization, as well as English historical linguistics and sociolinguistics. I blog about these and other related topics at Arrant Pedantry and have written for other venues as well.

I am a member of ACES: The Society for Editing and the Dictionary Society of North America.

In my free time, I am an avid Scrabble player.
